I have been saying for some time I would come back and fix up this profile. That was three years ago and counting. Well, no more. I am back at HubPages, and I am here for the long haul. Expect to see some things changing up here and there with my profile and hubs. My profile? Oh yeah, that’s what I came here to do.

I have worked a number of jobs in my less than illustrious career. Over a decade ago, I began along the path to what promised to be a very promising career in telecommunications, technical support, and customer service. Yes, I started as a frontline agent doing tech support for what was one of the largest telecommunication providers in the U.S. at the time. In actuality, I made it somewhere with that job. Moving up quickly, I got to learn a lot of things very fast. Or, maybe it was because I could learn new things quickly that I could move up as I did. Frankly, I think it was both. This was a far cry from what I had wanted to be only a few short years prior—a high school English teacher.

Nonetheless, I made some mistakes (one big one, really; maybe I’ll tell you about it sometime). I had to start over again at the bottom. I kept getting part way back up the ladder, but never by much. Low and behold, I found myself laid off about four years ago. Originally, I had figured I had time to find a job. Everyone was hiring in the area for my field. I had enough to float me financially for a bit. I stayed at home and relaxed a little. What I didn’t know was how quickly the job market would change.

A few months in, I started looking for work. I didn’t get any immediate offers, but that was okay. Then, I started to worry a bit. One day, out of frustration, I started searching online. I kept seeing all this talk about making money online. Most of what I came across was a scam. Still, I felt and knew there was some kernel of truth in there somewhere. I was missing it, though. I searched for two or three days. Finally, I found some answers.

I found work through various eFreelance sites. To get that work, though, I needed to find what I was good at and could do from home. Doing technical support from home wasn’t that popular, but a lot of people were looking for writers of different sorts. I could do that. But, I didn’t have a portfolio—not anymore. I had some random work out there and a newspaper I was a report for years ago. So, I stumbled across places like HubPages and started writing. Originally, it was just to get my name out there—not automatically, but to have something at a URL I could share with prospective employers. I found work within days of doing this. It was spotty at first, but then picked up. Then, it died off. Then it picked up again. It was like this for awhile until I returned to the wonderful world of call centers.

I did some little side work here and there, but I never tried to continue building my independent portfolio. I ended up coming back to work from home part time. That lasted for the better part of a year before things started to fall apart. I had to go back to work in yet another call center. The horror! I Tell you, folks, it was no fun. However, I did it a bit differently this time. I kept the contract work going on the side. Finally, with what had already come to pass, and some things I had been working on slowly over the years, here I am—working at home full time.

I’m my own boss. And, it is great! I’ve been able to work the jobs I want and not just anything thrown my way. I have seen residual incomes I never thought would happen start to come in. Things I was trying to line up finally fell into place. I still have my contract work, but I am not the starving monkey I once was.

And, it all comes back to this site: HubPages. It really did start here in a lot of ways. I’ve seen my ups and downs. I have seen more than my share of content sharing sites online. I always come back here. I find it to be the easiest and best interface. I find the payouts to be good. I like the community and the programming that goes into it all. So now, I get to come here and write more often.

You will notice that my hubs are about a variety of things. I have had a variety of jobs, as I said. I also have a number of interests. Further, with the work I have done over the past few years, I have been exposed to a great many subjects I never had any knowledge on before, and I love to share knowledge. It may not be new to you, but it’s new to someone. At the same time, you will see me write about some of my hobbies here—from toys to games and comic books, martial arts, computers, and more. I hope you enjoy what I put up, and if you don’t—let me know why. I’ll be sure to be posting and organizing more frequently to help make your time here a little more fun, and if there’s any questions I can answer, on anything from Star Wars to writing to plumbing to….oh, I give up, if I don’t know I’ll do my darnedest to find you an answer.

Meanwhile, I am living her in Arizona with four beautiful children and my wonderful wife. I honestly do not know how they put up with me sometimes. I have family all over the states, but we all do our best to keep in touch. I often rely on their varied backgrounds and experiences to answer questions or give me insight on my writing, so—thanks mom, and aunt, and uncle, and dad, and sis, and other aunt, and…you get the idea.
